Step 1: Access Bills of Material
Navigate to Inventory Admin > Bills of Materials in Luminous.
A Bill of Material (BOM) acts as a recipe for manufacturing or assembling a finished product.
Step 2: Create a Bill of Material
Click Create Bill of Materials in the top-right corner.
Provide a name for the BOM, typically matching the name of the finished product (e.g., "Chocolate Chip Cookies").
Add components (raw goods) to the BOM:
Click Add Rows to include items like flour, cocoa, butter, or sugar.
Ensure each component has a SKU already created in Luminous. If not, create a SKU for each raw material before proceeding.
Specify details for each component:
Quantity: Input the amount needed for the recipe.
Unit of Measure: Select the appropriate unit (e.g., grams, kilograms, milliliters).
(Optional) Add Notes or Directions for specific components.
Remove components by clicking the delete icon if necessary.
Once all components are added, click Save to finalize the BOM.
Step 3: Attach the BOM to a Finished Product
Search for the finished product’s SKU:
Navigate to the Products section in Luminous.
Locate the SKU of the finished product (e.g., "Chocolate Chip Cookies" or "Protein Bar").
Open the product details page and find the Bill of Materials section.
Select the newly created BOM from the dropdown menu.
Click Done to attach the BOM to the finished product.
Step 4: Use BOMs for Assembly Orders
Once the BOM is linked to a finished product, you can create assembly orders. This process will:
Deduct quantities of the raw goods (components) from inventory.
Update the inventory count of the finished product.
Additional Features
Multiple BOMs per Product:
Luminous allows multiple BOMs for the same finished product.
Example: If there are alternative recipes or manufacturing methods, you can assign separate BOMs to the same SKU, offering flexibility.
Final Notes
By setting up BOMs in Luminous, you streamline inventory tracking and manufacturing processes, ensuring accurate deduction of raw materials and production of finished goods. This feature supports flexible workflows for complex production needs.
